When it comes to automotive glass, you are typically presented with two options: OEM and OEE. So what is the difference between the two? Let's go into detail.
OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) glass is directly from the dealership and was made in the exact same method as the glass that the car originally came with. You will see logo of the dealership (Ford, Fiat, Honda, etc.), showing that it is such.
OEE/Aftermarket (Original Equipment Equivalent) is often made through a glass warehouse (or somewhere similar) through a similar process as the dealership, but there are often slight differences in how the glass is made.
People often wonder, what exactly is the difference between the two? And is one better than the other? Well, it depends on your preference. OEM glass is considered A+ quality, because the process in which it is made is very regulated. Because of this, it is often $200-$400 more (depending on the piece of glass). OEE glass, on the other hand, is often considered more of a B+ quality, because the creation process slightly varies from company to company. Because of this, the cost is considerably less than its counterpart.
Note: SOF only purchases aftermarket (OEE) glass through reputable warehouses that have been in business for 10+ years. Also, please be aware that purchasing OEM glass does not prevent cracks or chips in the windshield.
Ultimately, it all comes down to personal preference and what is most important to you.
